A quick review

Before we get into the heart of this article, let’s start with a little review on our sales funnel. What is it? Why is it important? What are the sales funnel stages and processes?

What is a Sales Funnel?

A sales funnel or a marketing funnel is a process that turns website visitors or leads into actual customers.

Sales funnels are designed to appeal to your customers using the powers and principles of psychology. As we’ve mentioned above, the funnel unfolds in stages to get your customers to your checkout or payment page.

Above is a sales funnel example. It’s a strategy that can turn cold prospects into long-term customers.

The funnel is supposed to represent the buyer’s journey. It’s broken down into smaller steps to help you perfect how and when to present offers to customers.

It starts wide because in a sales funnel, you begin with a large prospect of buyers. As potential customers go further into the funnel, the group becomes narrower until you are left with a smaller group of highly targeted and high-value customers.

Why is it important?

A sales funnel acts as your map. It allows you to trace the path prospects often take to make that purchase.

Knowing and understanding your sales funnel can help you pinpoint which part of the buyer’s journey you need to work on more. You have to find out which stage of the funnel your prospects fall through in order to make the buyer’s journey smoother.

Having a deep understanding of your funnel will help you optimize and create a foolproof journey for your customers.

What are the Sales Funnel stages?

Our Sales Funnel is divided into six stages:

1. Awareness/Attention

This is the first stage of our sales funnel. Think of this as the introductory stage.

This is when a brand or business catches the eye of the new prospects through marketing, lead generation, or baseline offers. The prospects become aware of your company, products, and brand.

This stage could also mean the prospects become aware of their problems, so they search for ways to solve it. Once they see your business offers them the solutions, they click on your site or ad and become aware of your brand.

2. Discovery

This stage is when your prospects become more curious about your brand. This is where you start sharing valuable content that will educate your prospects. The content has to relate to your prospect’s needs or problems.

3. Evaluation

Now at this stage, your prospect is evaluating you, your brand, and your products or services. They look at reviews and dig even more deeper than the discovery stage. Your prospects may even start comparing you to your competitors.

4. Intent

Intent stage is when your prospect finally decides to buy from you.

5. Purchase

Your prospect is no longer a prospect, but a customer. They pull the trigger and make the purchase. This is the perfect opportunity to ask for reviews and referrals.

6. Loyalty

The final stage is the ongoing relationship with your customers that keeps them purchasing from you or referring you to others.

What is the Sales Funnel process?

There are 5 steps to creating a sales funnel, and it’s not as difficult as you may think.

Step 1: Analyze the behavior of your audience

You can think of this step as your research phase. It’s crucial for business owners to know their audience and how their audience thinks.

The more you know about your audience, the more effective your sales funnel becomes. It would be a bad move to market to everyone – it’s a waste of time and money. You need to know your audience and the people who are interested in what you sell. This way you’re marketing to a targeted audience.

Create a buyer’s persona as your guide.

Step 2: Capture the attention of your audience

There’s no way a prospect will make a purchase or even click on your website if you don’t capture their attention.

You can publish content and go for the organic route, or you can pay to advertise on different platforms. We have a lot of articles on the different types of advertising and marketing you can do, so keep reading through the blog!

Step 3: Build a landing page

This step is what we will focus on the most: building a landing page.

Once a prospect clicks on your ad or content, they need to be brought somewhere. Landing pages are created for this sole purpose.

Your landing page needs to offer something valuable to your prospect; an offer they can’t refuse.

The landing page will reinforce your leads and steer them towards the next step.

The landing page needs to have a bold call to action to direct them what to do next. Landing pages have a form where prospects can input their information in exchange for your offer.

Our ClickFunnels designer can help you build a landing page that converts. If you want more information on this, keep scrolling.

Step 4: Create an email drip campaign

Once you get your prospects’ information from the landing page, it’s time to market to them via email campaigns.

Step 5: Keep in touch

The last step is to keep in touch with your customers, new and old.

Now that we’re done with our review, it’s time to get to the main reason you’re here. You already know that ClickFunnels is a landing page builder, so let’s start by defining a landing page.

What is a landing page?

A landing page is a page on your website that will help convert visitors into actual leads. It usually has a form that allows you to acquire the user’s information in exchange for your offer.

Why is it important?

A landing page is important because it:

  • Generates leads
  • Tracks data
  • Offers clarity and purpose
  • Encourages visitors to make a decision

ClickFunnels is a great service to use to create your own landing page. We’ve been using ClickFunnels for years, and we can say it’s made the creating process smoother.

There are ClickFunnels templates you can use to create your landing page, or you can start from scratch and create your own. Of course, having your own unique landing page will be better than a template.

It might become overwhelming and intimidating if you’re entirely new to all of it. If that’s the case, our Clickfunnels designer can help you.

What makes a great landing page?

An effective landing page will include different elements that will help you make those conversions happen. To help you visualize, we’ll be using our own landing page as an example.

Main Headline and/or Supporting Headline

The headline will be the most important part of your landing page because it’s the first thing visitors will see. Your headline should be able to capture your audience and deliver your message clearly. It should inform visitors of the product or service you’re offering, and it should be concise.

A supporting headline, though not necessary, can be useful to back your headline. Think of it as an extension of your headline. It needs to be persuasive enough to convince the visitor to stay on your page. It’s located below the main headline and is more in depth and detailed than the headline.

Oftentimes supporting headlines use words in order to convince the visitor, in our case we used a video. It’s a creative way you can make your landing page more interesting.

Call-to-Action

Another crucial element to your landing page is the call-to-action, or CTA. It can usually be seen inside the form box and at the bottom of the landing page.

If you want a successful landing page, you should have a value proposition, a clear message, and a CTA button.

Your CTA button should stand out from the page and attract the visitor’s eye. One way to do it is by choosing a color that contrasts the colors of your landing page. Choosing a contrasting color for your CTA button will make it pop.

Look at our example above. Our stands out and is surrounded by white space to isolate it. It’s readable and it stands out.

Unique selling proposition

All businesses each have their own unique selling proposition. It’s what sets your business apart from the competition.

In order to get prospective customers to take action, you need to give them a proper reason why.

Include this section in your landing page to explain to your audience what makes your business unique. It doesn’t have to be super long. 2-4 paragraphs with 1-2 sentences each should be enough.

Be straight to the point and tell your customers what they gain from choosing your business. Break it down to the most basic level for your customers to understand why they should care. Doing this will also set what their expectations should be from you.

Key Benefits

The key benefits give a more in depth look at the services or products you provide and how it may benefit your customers

In our case, we used a photo to show an example of what a website we create may look like if you acquire our services. We also listed some of the industries we provide services for.

Other landing pages will provide bullet points with the benefits of acquiring their services, some have feature descriptions. The feature descriptions will explain the services you offer or what your product does, while the benefits are solutions to the problem you are solving.

Images or Videos

Photos and videos will act as the visual representation of what you offer. It will better explain or show customers what your offer is and what it looks like.

Images will be crucial for businesses selling a physical product. Service based businesses should use images that will grab the attention of the visitors and demonstrate your service.

You should use large and high-quality images that’s relevant to your service or product.

Social Proof

Social proof shows visitors proof of the quality of your service or product. Your social proof can either be awards and recognition or reviews and testimonials.

Including social proof in your landing page will aid in persuading visitors to convert. This works especially if they see how many people used your offer and how many liked the quality of your service.

You can do that by including testimonials or reviews, the count of the number of sign-ups, awards and recognition, or publications or features from public networks.

Reinforcement statement

Reinforcement statements are usually headlines, sub-headlines, or page titles throughout the landing page that reinforces the main headline.

Examples of good landing pages

Great landing pages should be able to convert any visitors into customers. Here’s a quick list of some of our favourite landing pages.

Airtable

Airtable’s landing page is the quintessential landing page. It covers everything from the enticing headline, the key benefits, and a clear CTA. The design is whimsical and unique with all of the illustrations and use of vibrant colors.

SpyFu

The reason why we love SpyFu’s landing page is because it allows users to test drive their services through the CTA field. They don’t ask for the visitor’s information, instead they let users experience a part of their service.

3 Ways to improve and optimize your landing page designs

1. Choose an awesome landing page builder

There are a lot of landing page builders offered online, and each has its own benefits. Your choice will mostly depend on your company, budget, goals, and skills.

What we can suggest for an amazing landing page builder is ClickFunnels. It’s easy to use and it’s super effective at increasing conversions.

ClickFunnels has an array of preloaded landing page templates you can use that will make designing a landing page easy and smooth. It’s mostly drag-and-drop so it won’t take much effort.

However, having your own unique and custom landing page is still better than a template. So, if you need a landing page redesigned, or need help with custom ClickFunnels CSS and code, or you need help setting up your ClickFunnels integrations, our ClickFunnels designer can help.

2. Get rid of distracting elements

The best landing page designs have all of their elements in one page. There’s no need for users and visitors to switch pages, everything is laid out in front of them, in one page.

Your landing page design should have a logical flow to improve the user’s journey and keep them scrolling towards that CTA.

The best way to do this is by:

This is how you typically structure your landing page.

You can separate these into sections in your landing page, there’s no strict rule about how you design yours. However, it’s best to stick to this template as it’s persuasive and has been proven and tested countless times.

The design of your landing page is really up to you, some like it long-form with different sections to be more in depth with their persuasion tactics, while others like it super simple.

Just like Spotify’s one section landing page. It’s short-form and has a single visual focus. The flow and structure from the headline to the explanation to the CTA is extremely obvious, but still effective.

3. Go Mobile

Make the most out of your landing page, you can expand your reach by adopting a mobile-first strategy. People nowadays use their phones to search online. It’s quicker and easier than having to turn on a laptop or a desktop every time they have a search query.

Your landing page should also be designed to be responsive for mobile use to increase your reach and conversions. It should look appealing on mobile, load quickly, and be clickable.

Conclusion

Businesses should acknowledge how essential having an online presence is in order to connect with their market.

Landing pages are different from website homepages. They’re created to present business owners an opportunity to build customer-oriented marketing campaigns. They have to be professionally designed in order to reap the results. Landing pages need to be well-structured and have persuasive content for it to succeed.
